Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student should be able to know:
- the pathways and anatomical structures involved in the appetite,
- digestion with its oral, gastric and intestinal phases,
- the anatomy and physiology of motor functions relevant for the function of swallowing,
- right diet for different age,
- recognize the lesions of the oral cavity due to systemic diseases and deficiencies,
- eating behavior disorders

Program

Appetite:
- the student must achieve a deep knowledge on anatomical structures and neuro-sensorial pathways involved in the regulation of appetite.
Digestion:
- the student must achieve a deep knowledge on anatomical structures and mechanisms involved in the oral, gastric and intestinal phases of digestion.
Swallowing function:
- the student must be able to describe and recognize the anatomical structures and neuro-muscolar reflexes involved in the swallowing function.
Diet:
- the student must achieve a deep knowledge on the different energetic need depending on different age and activity, on right diet with special reference to mediterranean diet.
Oral cavity:
- the student must be able to recognize the lesions of the oral cavity occurring during systemic diseases and deficiency status.
Eating behavior disorders:
- the student must be able to recognize the clinical findings of bulimia and anorexia.
