Learning outcomes

The aim is to provide the student with basic knowledge of radiation protection (this includes an understanding of radiation physics and the main characteristics and effects of radiation) and safety in radiology and to provide knowledge of Imaging techniques and how to perform radiological examinations.

Program

- Principles of radiobiology and radiation protection (i.e., sources and properties of ionising radiation; mechanism of X-ray production; interaction between ionising radiation and matter/tissues; Radiation Quantities and Units; radiation effects on cells and DNA, tissues and organs; stochastic, deterministic and teratogenic radiation effects; concepts of dose determination and dose measurement; basic principles of radiation protection (RP), dose management in diagnostic radiology)
- Beyond X-Ray: main non-ionizing radiological techniques (principles and applications) and related safety principles
