Introduction to pharmacology, definition of drug, classification, origin. Principles of Pharmacokinetics: absorption; kinetic differences due to the route of administration; role of pharmaceutical formulation; bioavailability and factors that modify it; distribution to tissues and factors that modify it; concept of volume of distribution; barriers Metabolism and elimination of drugs: concepts of clearance and half-life; drug elimination and metabolization pathways; equilibrium kinetics and factors that modify them; individualization and calculation of the dose and corrections to be made in pathological conditions. Pharmacodynamics: drug-receptor interactions, concepts and definitions relating to binding and generation of effects, operational definitions with analyzes of efficacy, potency and adverse reactions Drug development, clinical trials and postmarketing monitoring Special pharmacology: Pharmacological control of pain: Anti-inflammatory drugs -non-steroidal inflammatory drugs: mechanisms of action and pharmacological classes; paracetamol, opiates Principles of action of antibiotic drugs Antiplatelet and anticoagulant drugs Anxiolytic and antidepressant drugs. Antimicrobials, corticosteroids and NSAIDs for the oral cavity.
