How to enroll

To be admitted to the Ph.D. Programme, applicants must participate in an open competition based on qualifications and examinations. The selection procedure aims to ascertain the applicants’ academic background and scientific research aptitude to ensure an appropriate comparative assessment. The Call for Applications sets out details about examination and assessment criteria.

Admission Requirements and Application procedures

Applications may be submitted, without age or nationality restrictions, by candidates who:

have studied in Italy and hold a qualification such as laurea magistrale, laurea specialistica or laurea del vecchio ordinamento (pre D.M. 509/1999)
hold a university degree equivalent to the degrees mentioned above (Master of Science/Art), which grants access to the doctorate in the country where they completed their university studies.

Professional qualifications (e.g., Master of Business Administration - MBA, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery - MBBS, etc.) do not grant access to PhD studies.

Those who will graduate by the date of enrolment in the Ph.D. program may also apply and participate in the competition.

To submit an application the candidate must connect to the ESSE3 website www.univr.it/ammissionedottorati in the dates indicated by the Call for Admissions, select the PhD Programme of interest, complete the online application which must subsequently be sent, together with the requested documentation, to phd.selection@ateneo.univr.it no later than the date and time indicated in the Call.

The operational instructions for submitting the online application are available in specific "Guidelines" available in the section dedicated to the competition procedure and published at the same time as the Call for Admissions.
There is no fee to participate in the competition.

Enrollment to the PhD

At the end of the selection procedures, the winner candidates must enroll in the PhD Programme by the deadline indicated in the Rectoral Decree following the instructions in the "Guidelines" published at the same time as the Decree. Upon registration, payment of an annual fee is required, to be paid in a single installment at the time of registration and consisting of the following items:

PhD students with scholarship: €454.00 (of which €188.00 as regional tax on the right to study, €250.00 for contributions, €16.00 for stamp duty paid virtually)

PhD students without scholarship: €204.00 (of which €188.00 as regional tax on the right to study, €16.00 for stamp duty paid virtually)

Call for applications Inflammation, Immunity And Cancer 41st cycle

Applicants can submit their application from 17 April 2025 to 20 May 2025 at 12.00 noon (Italian time, GMT+1).

The applicants have to:

go to www.univr.it/applicationphd webpage
register to the online system by entering the information required (if not already registered)
log in using their personal credentials (if current students of the University of Verona or already registered applicants)
select the chosen PhD programme
fill out the online application form

After filling out the online form, applicants should print a hard copy of it, sign it and send a scan of it together with the attachments listed in Annex 1 - PhD programmes information sheets EXCLUSIVELY by email to phd.selection@ateneo.univr.it by 20 May 2025, 1.00 p.m. (Italian time, GMT+1).
All application documents must be submitted in pdf format and sent as attachment to the e-mail from the applicant's personal address, with the following e-mail subject: "Application for the PhD programme in... Applicant's name and surname".
Any submission method other than that indicated, including the transmission of documentation through file sharing or cloud services, will result in automatic exclusion from the selection.

The overall file size of the e-mail should not exceed 20 MB. E-mails exceeding the size limit will not be delivered. The University e-mail system will send an automatic error message, which may be received by the sender up to several days after; it is the applicant's responsibility to check for this kind of message, which may be identified as spam by the mail provider. Receipt of the application and the attached documents is confirmed by sending an automatic system email.
