Learning outcomes

Consistently with the objectives of the BA degree, the course aims to provide the conceptual, methodological and cultural basis needed to operate in complex systems, with particular reference to the planning and organization of social interventions and policies.
The course aims to
- highlight the contextual elements that require innovative programming in social and health services at local level;
- link the planning competencies to the practices of professional social work;
- learn methods for creating and managing sustainable social projects;
- learn qualitative and quantitative techniques for the implementattion and management of social projects;
- translate the programming logic into concrete activities of social work.

At the end of the course, the student had to be able to translate the logic of social planning into the concrete activities of social work, in particular
• to analyze the characteristics of the contexts (organizational, social and cultural) within which the implementation of plans and projects takes place;
• planning the inter-institutional process between different actors (public, private, third sector);
• Identify, for each stage of the planning process, the specific contents and actions and the ways for the co-ordination of different actors

Program

The social care reform considers programming as the key tool for the governance of social and health policies. In the last decade, the work of social workers has been invested by several complexity factors:
- The transformation of the welfare systems, characterized by the presence of several actors (public and private) oriented by values and interests sometimes conflicting with each other;
- The multidimensionality of social problems and the need to consider plans and projects as tools for the integration of well-being policies (relationships with the social private sector; integration between social and health care; corporate, municipal and community welfare, etc).
- The onset of particularly urgent social problems (eg. Migrations, environmental disasters, transformations of the family, new forms of addiction, etc.), foreign to the traditional political codes.

This new scenario requires to rethink the social worker's advanced training.
Course contents:
- Methodologies for reading the complex problems;
- Methods and techniques that can support innovation in the social interventions;
- procedures through which the social planning becomes an advanced core competence of professional social work.

Examination Methods

A - Written examination.
This exam will address the theoretical part of the program.

B - Project work.
Elaboration of a social project based on the indications provided by the teacher.
