Learning outcomes

The course aims at providing in-depth knowledge on issues related to theoretical and applied linguistics, with a peculiar focus on the Russian language. By the end of the course, students will: 1. know the salient aspects of Russian linguistics and the main theoretical frameworks used to analyse them; 2. know how to apply specific knowledge in the fields of theoretical linguistics, second language acquisition and language teaching; 3. develop independent judgments on the main topics of the course and express them in a coherent and correct way.

Program

At the end of the course, students will be able to (a) apply concepts of linguistic theories to the Russian syntax, (b) describe the main functions of case in Russian and its acquisition, (c) master the specific lexicon.

The course focuses on the Russian case, precisely on:

Part 1
1. The case system, grammatical relations, and semantic roles
2. Case in Generative Grammar
3. The main cases in the Russian system
