Learning outcomes

The aims of the course are:
- introduction to genearal toxicology, mechanisms of action of toxic agents and different classes of drugs
- to study the basic mechanism chracterising toxic effect
- toxic effects of drugs and other chemicals against principals target body organs
At the end students shoul be able to know molecular mechanims of toxic effects, organ toxicity induced by chemicals and/or drugs, toxicity tests

Program

- Introduction to toxicology: definitions and study methodology
- In vitro and in vivo toxicity tests (Ames test; Comet tests, ect)
- Different toxic effects and influencing factors
- Toxicokinetics and toxicogenomics
- Computational toxicology
- Mechanisms of cellular toxicity
- Individual susceptibility to toxic chemicals
- Organ toxicity: nervous system, hepatic and renal toxicity, pulmonary and cardiac toxicity, toxicity of immune system, skin toxicity
- Mutagenesis and Genotoxicity
- Applied pharmacology: drug toxicity and drug interaction: anti-inflammatory drugs; Cardiovascular medications;
Antihypertensive agents; Antiarrhythmic drugs; Anticoagulant drugs; Lipid-lowering agents; Cholinergic and adrenergic drugs; Antibiotics; Chemotherapeutics and biotechnological agents
Toxicology of nanomaterials

Lessons' slides and other material (scientific papers) will be given to students at the end of each lesson

Examination Methods

Written examination with 4 open questions on topics of the program.
Each response must have a maximum score of 7.5
The final vote will be given by the sum of the four votes
