Learning objectives

At the end of the course, students will be able to evaluate the ethical dimension of business and to adopt ethical responsible choices when inserted in professional context. In detail, the course aims to enable students to acquire knowledge about ethical theories, ethical consequences of different firm theories, civil economy, the purpose and forms of firms (with particular attention to hybrid models), and models of evaluation and communication of social impact. With regards to skills, the course enables students to mature skills about ethical evaluation of business, measurement of social impact, management of tools useful to cultivate relationships with stakeholders, and building virtuous work environment.

Prerequisites and basic notions

The course aims to introduce the student to the field of business ethics studies; the basic elements of business theory and management are a prerequisite of the course

Program

In summary, the program is as follows:

3. The corporate purpose between profit, non-profit and hybrid
4. Business, work and markets: the ethics of work
5. business ethics and corporate and community welfare
6. Measuring corporate value from an ethical point of view
7. Corporate Ethics and Organizational Models for managing and reducing corporate risks

The program is the same for both attending and non-attending students.

Didactic methods

Teaching involves the interaction of different teaching methods and is supported by a Moodle platform to which students can register to participate in the proposed activities. These activities will be fully usable even for students unable to attend lessons. Alongside traditional lessons, teaching strategies will be used such as participatory lessons, cooperative learning, the company case and company visit, film viewing, and other active dynamics aimed at allowing students to develop practical skills and abilities criticisms, as well as of course the learning of knowledge. The teaching activities will be provided in compliance with the rules for the containment of the Covid-19 emergency in force during the lesson period.
The study material - consisting of articles, book chapters, slides and other documentary materials - is summarized in the "general information"; section of the elearning platform.

Learning assessment procedures

The assessment of learning involves mixed modalities, in order to assess the different skills associated with teaching. In detail, the evaluation includes 4 types of activities, which constitute the portfolio from which the final evaluation derives:
- group work, to be carried out, delivered and discussed during the semester (3 assigned works); these works are aimed at developing and evaluating the skills relating to case analysis and problem solving connected to managerial problems of an ethical nature, team work and the ability to summarize ethically sensitive situations in the final reports, adopting a correct and appropriately using the logical categories of business ethics;
- individual participation activities in the topics of the course, through forums; these works are intended to develop and evaluate the skills relating to the personal elaboration of ethically sensitive issues, to ethical reflection on management issues and the ability to correctly use the language and logical categories of business ethics;
- an individual presentation – to be made at the end of the lessons and/or during the exam session, supported by a possible Power Point presentation – aimed at discussing a thematic study or a case study, chosen by the student; this work is aimed at developing and evaluating the skills relating to the ability to summarize the knowledge learned and to analyze in an in-depth and systemic way the problems of management from an ethical point of view, as well as the skills of oral transmission of complex topics;
- a test - to be carried out during the exam session - relating to the knowledge of the topics in the programme; this last activity is aimed at the development and assessment of knowledge relating to the topics covered by the course and skills in the correct use of the logical categories of business ethics. These assessment methods are available to all students, also thanks to the use of the Moodle platform, the recorded lessons available on Panopto throughout the academic year and the tutoring service.
Alternatively, the student can choose to be assessed - without preparing the assessment portfolio - taking - as the first part of the exam - the test and, subsequently, a final oral exam (to be taken during the exam session) concerning the entire Study program. This option must be communicated to the teacher before the beginning of the exam session.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The evaluation criteria adopted are the following:
- depth and breadth of acquired knowledge (does the student know the subjects on the programme?)
- ability to apply the concepts to specific business situations (does the student know how to discuss the ethical dimension of business problems?)
- language properties in written production and oral discussion (does the student express himself correctly?)
- completeness of the learning path (does the student know how to discuss the different teaching topics? And can he connect them?)

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The overall evaluation of the exam derives from the following weighting of the portfolio:
- group work: 30%
- forum: 10%
- individual presentation: 30%
- test: 30%
The final evaluation is expressed out of 30 and the commission can assign honors by virtue of the particular quality of the activities in the portfolio, with particular reference to those provided during the lesson period.

Type D and Type F activities

Nei piani didattici di ciascun Corso di studio è previsto l’obbligo di conseguire un certo numero di crediti formativi mediante attività a scelta (chiamate anche "di tipologia D e F").

Oltre che in insegnamenti previsti nei piani didattici di altri corsi di studio e in certificazioni linguistiche o informatiche secondo quanto specificato nei regolamenti di ciascun corso, tali attività possono consistere anche in iniziative extracurriculari di contenuto vario, quali ad esempio la partecipazione a un seminario o a un ciclo di seminari, la frequenza di laboratori didattici, lo svolgimento di project work, stage aggiuntivo, eccetera.

Come per ogni altra attività a scelta, è necessario che anche queste non costituiscano un duplicato di conoscenze e competenze già acquisite dallo studente.

Quelle elencate in questa pagina sono le iniziative extracurriculari che sono state approvate dalla Commissione didattica e quindi consentono a chi vi partecipa l'acquisizione dei CFU specificati, alle condizioni riportate nelle pagine di dettaglio di ciascuna iniziativa.

Si ricorda in proposito che:
- tutte queste iniziative richiedono, per l'acquisizione dei relativi CFU, il superamento di una prova di verifica delle competenze acquisite, secondo le indicazioni contenute nella sezione "Modalità d'esame" della singola attività;
- lo studente è tenuto a inserire nel proprio piano degli studi l'attività prescelta e a iscriversi all'appello appositamente creato per la verbalizzazione, la cui data viene stabilita dal docente di riferimento e pubblicata nella sezione "Modalità d'esame" della singola attività.

ATTENZIONE: Per essere ammessi a sostenere una qualsiasi attività didattica, incluse quelle a scelta, è necessario essere iscritti all'anno di corso in cui essa viene offerta. Si raccomanda, pertanto, ai laureandi delle sessioni di dicembre e aprile di NON svolgere attività extracurriculari del nuovo anno accademico, cui loro non risultano iscritti, essendo tali sessioni di laurea con validità riferita all'anno accademico precedente. Quindi, per attività svolte in un anno accademico cui non si è iscritti, non si potrà dar luogo a riconoscimento di CFU.
