Learning objectives
This course aims to introduce students to the concept and techniques of Business Analytics models, but also the new role of the "Business Analyst" within the organization. Particularly in the first part of this course, it will be used the POPIT(TM) model. Therefore, the data analysis and the interpretation of the information must always be aligned with: human resources (skills), the organizational environment, processes, and technologies. Taking as a reference the KPIs (Key Process Indicators), deriving from the business processes previously defined through the BPMN language, they will be analyzed and evaluated in real-time to create reports or dashboards to support the decision-making process. The data in addition to being used for the decision-making process, for the operational part, will also be used to align the POPIT(TM) components with the corporate business model better. This analysis will be conducted through the use of Business Intelligence tools to better respond to market needs. In the second part of the course, starting from historical series and external destructured data (through Big Data) we will proceed with the realization of predictive models to support managers in their strategic and operational decisions.
Prerequisites and basic notions
There are no prerequisites, but the course refers to the main concepts of Business Administration, Organization Studies, Management Control, Statistics.
Program
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Business Analytics concepts and techniques, emphasizing the crucial role of the "Business Analyst" within data-driven organizations.
Both the technical tools and methodologies will be studied in-depth, enabling students to interpret and analyze data strategically, with a focus on integrating human resources, processes, and technologies, according to the POPIT® model.
Through workshops, students will develop proficiency in Business Intelligence tools, acquiring skills in creating reports and dashboards to support the decision-making process.
Special attention will be dedicated to the theme of Change Management. By looking at the KPIs derived from the previously defined business processes through the BPMN language, we will proceed to the real-time analysis and evaluation of these analytics, enabling strategic decision-making. Additionally, process re-engineering techniques will be explored to enhance the quality of the collected data, which will be utilized not only for operational decision-making but also to better align the POPIT® components with the business model.
Eventually, students will learn to apply Business Analytics in inter-organizational contexts, with practical cases illustrating the management of complexity in relationships between different organizations.
Through a combination of lectures, practical workshops, business games, and industry testimonies, the course aims to develop the analytical and decision-making skills necessary to interpret data and processes in a complex and constantly evolving business environment.
