Learning outcomes

The course provides students with knowledge, understanding and skills related to the role of occupational medicine in prevention, protection, promotion and management of health and safety in the workplace, with a particular focus on risk factors in healthcare sector.
The student will acquire, also through examples taken from the field, knowledge and understanding on the principles of occupational medicine, risk assessment, health surveillance, fitness for job, specific legislation, health education, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.

Program

- Definition of work environment, risk, hazard
- Occupational risk factors and their consequences (injuries, occupational diseases, multifactorial occupational diseases)
- Occupational health and safety legislation
- Occupational health and safety actors and institutions
- Risk assessment, health surveillance, education program and preventive intervention in the workplace
- Occupational risks in healthcare sector: physical risks, chemical risks, biological risks, ergonomic risks, organizational risks.
