Learning objectives

The objective of this teaching is to provide the student with possession of the specific knowledge and correct behavior patterns regarding the epidemiology and prevention of the main infectious and chronic degenerative diseases pertinent to the profession, acquire specific knowledge, awareness and understanding about occupational hazards, health surveillance methods, radioprotective regulations to be correctly applied during work activity, in strict compliance with health protection legislation, safety in the workplace and the use of ionizing radiation in the health care environment in the protection of patients, workers and the general population. In addition, the student will learn fundamental concepts of medical statistics useful for interpreting and communicating biomedical and/or or epidemiological research data. EPIDEMIOLOGY AND HEALTH STATISTICS MODULE Learning objectives: This course covers the basic concepts of medical statistics, particularly descriptive statistics, and an introduction to inferential statistics, the concepts of hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. In addition, the course also presents the basic concepts of epidemiology, explaining prevalence, incidence, and measures of association. By the end of the course, students should be able to: - describe the data, by means of measures of central tendency and variability; - interpret and appropriately communicate information concerning a collective of experimental units or patients, collected as part of clinical or epidemiological research in relation to biomedical phenomena; - know how to construct and interpret a graphical summary representation of the collected data; - know and use the main measures of frequency and association in the field of epidemiology; - understand the fundamentals of statistical inference to a) correctly interpret the meaning of confidence intervals of a parameter (mean, proportion); b) understand the use and interpret the level of significance (p-value); - be able to interpret statistical results found in the medical literature. Although computational formulas and methods are also presented, special attention will be paid to data interpretation. MODULE PREVENTIVE HYGIENIC METHODS AND PRINCIPLES OF INFIRMARY CARE Learning Objectives: the course covers the main concepts with respect to developmental care theories including epistemology, needs theory and rating scales. In addition, concepts such as antisepsis, sepsis, disinfection and sterilization are described and the various chemical and physical methods to achieve these goals are described, and key concepts such as personal protective equipment (PPE) are also explained depending on the level of riskiness of the worker. By the end of the course, students should be able to: * describe the main nursing theories; 6 * describe the main preventive hygiene methods; * know about PPE; EPIDEMIOLOGICAL METHODOLOGY AND APPLIED HYGIENE MODULE The course should equip the student with the specific knowledge and correct behavior patterns regarding the epidemiology and prevention of the main infectious and chronic degenerative diseases relevant to the profession. RADIOPROTECTION MODULE Learning Objectives: The objective of this module is to enable students at the end of the course using knowledge of physics and biology to know and understand radiation protection regulations under the relevant legal provisions. The units of radiation measurement, measuring instruments in radiation protection of workers, procedures to avoid external exposure and internal contamination, biological effects of ionizing radiation, application of radiation protection in the environment and workplace. WORKPLACE SAFETY MODULE Learning objectives: -The course aims to make the student acquire basic knowledge and understanding on prevention, protection and promotion and management of health and safety in the workplace. -The student will acquire, including through examples from the field, basic knowledge and understanding on the general principles of occupational medicine, risk assessment, health surveillance, suitability judgment, specific legislation, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention, with reference to different types of occupational risk (e.g., chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic, organizational and psychosocial, accident). -Attention will be devoted to having the student acquire knowledge and understanding about the prerogatives and roles of the various figures and structures assigned to prevention in the workplace. -Specific focus will be to have the student acquire specific knowledge, awareness and understanding about occupational hazards, health surveillance methods and legislation for the protection of the health and safety of cardiovascular pathophysiology and cardiovascular perfusion technicians.
