Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide the students with the method and the instruments for understanding theatre as an aesthetic phenomenon and for the analysis of the art of performing with respect to the historical evolution of theatre and to its cultural context.
Program
Contents:
Puppets, marionettes, shadows and other “artificial actors”, between traditional and experimental theatre. Puppetry and other similar genres of entertainment, involving “artificial actors”, will be analysed following their historical development in Europe, especially in Italy. Besides, the course will examine the influence of a a renwed and idealized conception of marionettes on some of the most important theatre theories and practices in the XXth century.
