Learning outcomes
the course aims at providing critical and methodological tools for reading and discussing texts related to political philosophy.
Program
Content of course: Interpreting the classics. The course provides an integral and analytical reading of Plato’s Republic and confronts it with Hannah Arendt’s original and anomalous interpretation of this masterpiece of Western political thought.
Bibliography: Plato, Republic, in any unabridged edition with the Greek text (the Greek text is also available on the internet); Hannah Arendt, Che cos’è l’autorità, in Tra passato e futuro, Garzanti, Milano 1999; Hannah Arendt, Socrates, in The Promise of Politics, Schocken, New York 2005 (this text will be available as photocopy at copisteria La rapida).
