Second Part: The Discourses of Epictetus provide an example of a philosophical teaching aimed not to accumulate knowledge but to transform themselves. It will be also reviewed the stoicism of Seneca, seen in the light of the interpretation offered in our time from Maria Zambrano.

The self-care in the ancient world: the example of the Stoics.
First Part: The course aims to show, from some contemporary interpretations, the importance of self-care in the ancient world. After analyzing the interpretation of the practices of the self in antiquity offered by Foucault, the identification of the retreat in the ancient world made by Pierre Hadot and actualization of philosophical care of himself offered by Martha Nussbaum, it will result in examination especially self-care in the Stoics.
