The course aims to help students understand: •the use of x-rays in producing diagnostic images; •geometric factors in Radiology; •x-beam modulation parameters and the main devices influencing the formation of radiographic image •the concept of radiographic image quality; •the main correlations and differences between traditional and digital radiographic image.

•production of x-rays; •x-ray Spectrum; •notes on the interaction of x-rays with matter; •radiological image formation; •geometric factors in Radiology; •radiological projection concept; •main, central and normal x-beam; •magnification, deformation and distortion of the object; •geometric unsharpness and the Heel effect; •voltage, current, time: relationships and effects in conventional and digital radiology; •Collimators, diffusion grids and other procedures to contain the scattering; •concept of contrast, sensitivity, exposure latitude and spatial resolution; •main correlations and differences between traditional radiography and digital radiography both direct and indirect; •guidelines for a correct analysis of the radiographic image quality.
