Learning outcomes

The course aims at transfer the basic knowledge for the application of fermentative processes in continuous and discontinuous bioreactors including their facilities/utilities (aeration, mixing, process control)

Program

The course programme is based on the following macro-blocks

1. Pre-requisites (definitions)
2. Mass and energy balances in transient and steady state conditions
3. Transport phenomens for mass, energy and momentum
4. Reaction order and kinetics, biological reactions
5. Bioreactors : continuos, discontinuous and hybrid reactors
6. Utilities for bioreactors: mixing, aeration, temperature and pH control

Examination Methods

1. Written part (numerical exercises)
2. Oral part
3. Report on lab experiences

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
