Learning outcomes

Biomolecular Tecnologies means that the teaching concerns Methods and Techniques dealing with biiomolecules, biological organisms and products derived or present in living organisms.
In the degree course in biotecnology, it is focused on genetics, i.e. molecular genetics, consequently the course deals mainly with methods of molecular genetics and on their theoretical basis. The course consists of a part of theory, structurally unchanged and yet updated every year (the text written by the teacher is available to the students), and two modules that are decided with the students at the beginning of the course. E.g. In 2014-2015 the topic of the practical part has been the espression of a protease, from its gene synthesis to the expression and purification of the encoded protein and the part dealng with innovation in biotechnology has elaborated on the possible use of aptamers in medicine (e.g. virus Ebola, dermatology) and enology. The last two modules, at the end of the study and after discussion(s) are written down by the students. E.g. In 2012-2014 the module(s) have been focused on novel solutions to the problem of white wine stabilization.

General aim of the course is the Biological and Biotechnological innovation. The first studied as evolution of the living organisms, the second studied as evolution of biotechniques and biotechnologica methods and products. In particular the course pinpoints the "parallel convergence" of biological and biotechnological innovations (e.g. RNA world as evolutionary thory to the analysis of biotech companies based on RNA technology quoted at the NASDAQ).

Results. Patent filed (June 2014) by the University of Verona and Sassari based on results stimulated by the 2013 corse, although duly expanded and modified by the experimental work and research results. Enological rights acquired by Enologica Vason (1 february 2015).

Program

Module:
-------
Theory.
It consists of chapters given after the lectures and available on a web site organized by the students (Google drive).

The other two parts consists of reviews (pdf), articles (pdf)and whatever is considered relevant for the course and by the work written by the students, e.g. in 2014-2015 a case study (aptamers) and a lab work (i.e. laboratory experiment).

Examination Methods

Module:
-------

Oral and evaluation of written work

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
