Learning outcomes
- to learn the biophysical bases of the ablative techniques used in HPB surgery
- to learn indications and contraindications of the ablative techniques used in HPB surgery
Program
Ablative treatments are new promising palliative therapies of biliopancreatic tumors. There are several ablative techniques (e.g. radiofrequency ablation, electroporation, microwaves, etc.), according to the type of energy applied.
A detailed description of each ablative technique will be provided. Videos will be shown and, when, possible the single techniques will be used on animal tissues. Instructions on indications to their use and possible device-related side effects will be shown.
At the end of the course the student will know each ablative technique and will be able to depict pros and cons of each of them.
