Learning outcomes

This course is an expansion/continuation of the General Pharnmacology course. By completing this course, the student will:
- Know the properties (mechanisms of action, clinical effects, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic uses, adverse reactions) of classes of drugs active on: cardiovascular, central and peripheral, endocrine, and gastrointestinal systems and acting on inflammatory processes.
- Be able to define the rationale for the selection and use of drug in relation to the undergoing pathology, the characteristics and the clinical state of the patient and the evidences available on the scientific literature
- Know how to monitor the efficacy of the therapy and recognize the occurrence of adverse reactions.

Program

The programme of the course is focussed on the analysis of drug properties (mechanism of action, clinical effects, therapeutic use, adverse reaction). Specifically, for each class of drugs, the student will:
Know the level of evidence and the classification of recommendation as defined by the scientific literature and the referring medical scientific association
Recognize the efficacy of a drug/therapy based on positive symptoms elicited and the occurrence of adverse reactions
Construct the rationale for the therapeutic choices based on the properties of drugs actives on cardiovascular, central and peripheral, endocrine, and gastrointestinal systems and acting on inflammatory processes.
Know how to use manuals and write prescriptions
Be able to critically understand design and results of clinical trials
The classes of drugs that will be considered are the following:
Drugs active on cardiovascular system
Drugs active on Central and Peripheral Nervous system
Drugs active on gastrointestinal tract
Drugs for the control of dislipidemia
