MM: FARMACOLOGIA CLINICA
------------------------
The module aims the student to achieve basic knowledge of Clinical Pharmacology, which is necessary for nursing and for the control and management of drug therapies, with particular reference to the identification and prevention of major adverse drug reactions occurring with each category of drugs studied. Having such knowledge is equally important in order to effectively educate patients about their medications.

The teaching is based on the safe and efficient assistance’s precepts, achieving health results or a patient’s rewarding condition and evaluating the caring’s progress in collaborations with a multidisciplinary team. The approach considers the various application modalities for a prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic process and the monitoring strategies for the personal effects too.

MM: FARMACOLOGIA CLINICA

At the end of the module the student should know the most important characteristics, the mechanisms of action (in relation to adverse events), the most frequent and serious adverse reactions, the contraindications, the precautions, the problems related to the management of the therapy (eg interactions, drugs administration), the main indications and the most used single drugs for each of the following drug classes: Cardiovascular drugs: digitalis, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, antianginals, diuretics, cholesterol lowering agents, anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents. The previous categories include: calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, sartans, statins, drastic diuretics, thiazides, inhibitors of vitamin K, direct oral anticoagulants, regular heparin and low molecular weight heparins, aspirin. Respiratory drugs: Antiasthmatics, Cough Sedatives, Mucolytics Gastrointestinal drugs: Antiulcer (gastroprotectors), Antiemetics, laxatives Drugs for the nervous system: Opioid analgesics (pain therapy), Anxiolytic - Sedative-hypnotics (benzodiazepines, Z-drugs), antidepressants, anti-epileptic-drugs.

Safe therapies giving: oral, parenteral, meals and nutriment associated therapy: empty or full stomach, managing drugs during perioperative period and diagnostic investigation. Drug’s shattering and pulverizing (no-eating patient with gastro-nasal probe) Infusional and oral therapy’s calculation exercise. Peripheral and central vascular catheter management, main complication (occlusion, inflammation, infiltration) Venous and arteriosus blood sample, radial artery’s. emogasanalisys, capillary blood sample. Preparation and post examination caring for colon and bronchial tubes examination, in contrast means required examination. Nutrition recovery after particular examinations (colon and stomach) Taking care of patient with enteral feeding, using gastro-nasal probe, total parenteral nutrition and PEG. Educate the patient with oral anti-coagulation drugs

Radioprotection’s precepts for various medical examination: Echography, biopsy, TAC, RSM, Mammography RADIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION: • Indication, anatomical and physiological structure examined by the diagnostic procedure • Patient’s Specific preparation (full bladder, other examination) • Giving right instruction and information before and during the examination for an optimal examination • Contrast means’ placement and application • Possible complication or disease (contrast means adverse reaction)

Clinical Pharmacology learning is assessed during the written examination of the Course “Application of diagnostic and therapeutic processes", that includes 80 multiple-choice questions (1 correct answer out of 4-5): 25 concerning each of the modules "Clinical Pharmacology" and "Nursing" 15 related to each of the modules "Diagnostic Imaging and Radioprotection" and "Nutritional Science". The exam is passed when the student answers correctly to at least 11 questions concerning each of the modules "Clinical Pharmacology" and "Nursing" and 8 concerning each of the other 2 modules.
