Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to define and discuss the problems of severe trauma of the abdomen and thorax. The course will be based on the clinical approach to the patient with severe trauma in order to provide participants with a guide for intra-hospital management focused on diagnosis, therapeutic approach and surgical indications. The program includes: presentation of problems, ATLS approach, haemorrhagic shock and massive transfusion, blunt and penetrating trauma, approach to polytrauma, triage in mass causalities and discussion of clinical cases.
Program
Definition, mechanisms of injuries and epidemiology of severe trauma. Elements of pathophysiology of trauma. Clinical pictures of trauma. Hemorrhagic shock.
Diagnostic and therapeutic approach in the Emergency Room. ATLS concept. Damage control.
Introduction to blunt and penetrating trauma. Trauma of the chest.
Trauma of the abdomen and perineum.
Multiple injuries. Mass causalities.
Discussion of clinical cases.
Examination Methods
