Physiology (2021/2022)
The teaching is organized as follows:
Learning outcomes
The aim is to give basic knowledge of human physiology (general and nervous system physiology), as well as general psychology. GENERAL PHYSIOLOGY Know organs functions of the human body based on cells physiology that form the organs, the inte-gration among organs which form the cardiovascular, pulmonary, excretory, digestive systems and main mechanisms of regulation (nervous and humoral) of organs and systems function. PHYSIOLGY OF NERVOUS SYSTEM Know the basic knowledge of the nervous system anatomy, the excitability mechanism of nervous cells and the synaptic transmission, sensory nervous system (somaesthetic and pain, chemical senses, sight, hearing and balance), integrate the knowledge of signals mechanism and nervous regulation with the endocrine mechanism. PSYCHOLOGY Know the theoretical foundation of cognitive abilities to explain the mechanism through which hu-mans can adapt and interact to the external world.
Program
------------------------
MM: PSICOLOGIA
------------------------
The course will address the following topics: sensation and perception, attention, learning, memory, emotions, motivation, language. Lectures dedicated to each of the topics will be given. The teacher strongly encourages active participation of the students with questions and open discussion.
------------------------
MM: FISIOLOGIA GENERALE
------------------------
Topics 1. Physico-chemical characteristics of the blood; coagulation and hemostasis 2. Cardiovascular physiology: heart and circulation Regulation of acid-base 3. Respiration 4. Renal Physiology: filtration, reabsorption, secretion and excretion 5. Acid-base regulation 6. Fluid and electrolyte balance 7. Gastrointestinal Physiology
------------------------
MM: FISIOLOGIA DEL SISTEMA NERVOSO
------------------------
Physiology of excitable membranes, synaptic transmission, sensory systems and neuroendocrine integration, on the basis of the anatomical organization of the nervous system.

Examination Methods
------------------------
MM: PSICOLOGIA
------------------------
The aim of the exam is to assess the knowledge acquired by the students during the course, as well as their ability to make inferences and connections about the different topics discussed during the course. The exam will be in the form of a written examination with open questions. Oral examination to integrate the score is allowed but not mandatory. The exam will cover the lectures (including demonstrations and video). Suggested books serve to help the student to have a deeper understanding of the topic and, for non-attending students, to better follow the lectures’ contents. The evaluation is expressed in thirtieths.
------------------------
MM: FISIOLOGIA GENERALE
------------------------
The exam consists of an oral interview with the professor on the topics taught during the lectures. The grade, in thirtieth will be weighted-average (according to the number of CFUs of the single Professors) with the grades of the other sections of the course of physiology
------------------------
MM: FISIOLOGIA DEL SISTEMA NERVOSO
------------------------
Oral, to be integrated with Psychology and General Physiology.
