Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Diagnostic methodologies for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2021/2022)

Learning outcomes
MODULO BIOCHIMICA E CHIMICA DELL'INQUINAMENTO AMBIENTALE The course aims to provide students with the principles for knowledge: of specific terminology; direct and indirect analysis techniques for air, water and soil pollutants; the mechanisms, causes, effects and costs of pollution; purification techniques and self-purification phenomena; of techniques to limit pollution and its effects. MODULO BIOLOGIA MOLECOLARE The course also aims to provide an updated view of molecular biology techniques that are used in different clinical settings including prenatal diagnosis of genetic and chromosomal disorders, diagnosis of mendelian and oncoematologic diseases, infertility and pharmacogenetics. MODULO BIOTECNOLOGIE RICOMBINANTI The course aims to make students understand the basic stages of the birth of modern biotechnologies and the current applications of recombinant biotechnology in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. We will discuss issues of a scientific, ethical and biological nature. The course also aims to provide an updated view of recombinant techniques including techniques for reproductive and therapeutic cloning, technic for the reproduction of recombinant drugs MODULO METODI E TECNICHE DI GENETICA E BIOLOGIA MOLECOLARE The training objective is to provide adequate knowledge of the main diseases related to alterations of genes and theoretical principles of the techniques of cytogenetics and molecular genetics. Obtain adequate knowledge of the theoretical principles and applications of the techniques of detection of genetic alterations MODULO METODOLOGIA DIAGNOSTICA MOLECOLARE The course aims to make students understand the role of genetic testing in the clinical course of the patient. The course also aims to provide students who have no medical training the basic knowledge on the clinical aspects concerning the genetic basis of diseases. The course aims to provide an updated view of molecular biology techniques that are used in a clinical setting.

------------------------ MM: BIOCHIMICA E CHIMICA DELL'INQUINAMENTO AMBIENTALE ------------------------ Definitions; types of pollution; the causes of pollution; direct and indirect effects of pollution; methods of analysis; damage to health; costs; phenomena of self-purification; purification techniques; specific aspects of air, water and soil polluttants; landfills; incineration; composting. ------------------------ MM: METODOLOGIA DIAGNOSTICA MOLECOLARE ------------------------ Introduction and organization of the molecular biology laboratory. Clinical molecular biology in hematological field. CBC and peripheral blood smear. Main methods of proteomics (chromatography, spettrometry..). FISH and Array-CGH. ------------------------ MM: METODI E TECNICHE DI GENETICA E BIOLOGIA MOLECOLARE ------------------------ Organization of the human genome, genetic Polymorphisms, germ-line and somatic mutations. Online Databases for genomics. Reference search and genome browsers. In silico molecular biology software. Nucleic acids extraction. Quantification, quality analysis and labeling of nucleic acids. Gene amplification techniques (cloning), signal amplification, target amplification. Endpoint PCR and real-time qPCR. Analysis of real-time qPCR data. RT-qPCR and other gene expression assays. Digital PCR and new methods for multiplex nucleic acids analysis. Next generation sequencing( NGS), Array CGH, MLPA PCR, RNA fusion sequencing to detect chromosomal aberrations, SNPArray and RNAseq for gene expression analysis. Introduction to third-generation sequencing. Examples of biomedical applications of molecular methodologies. (companion Diagnostics, forensic Genetics, Pharmacogenetics). ------------------------ MM: BIOTECNOLOGIE RICOMBINANTI ------------------------ Lesson 1 A Short History of DNA Technology and the Human Genome Project Lesson 2 Major classes of restriction endonucleases, molecular cloning using a plasmid vector, different cloning vector Lesson 3 The laboratory animal species most closely related to humans for which the knockout technique can easily be applied, Knockout mouse. Lesson 4 Bioinformatic tools: BLAST and Primer 3 Lesson 5 Clinical applications of recombinant drugs.
