Learning objectives
The objective of the course is to provide an appropriate knowledge of the models and tools of sustainability and innovation in sports organizations, with reference also to sports facilities and events.
The course also aims to lead students to analyze and evaluate the sustainability tools applicable in different contexts.
At the end of the course the student has to show to have acquired the following skills:
- Knowledge of the sustainable development principles;
- Knowledge of the sustainability tools for organizations, facilities and sporting events;
- Ability to evaluate and develop solutions aimed at improving sustainability aspects;
- Ability to integrate sustainability tools in the management of organizations.
The course explores the following thematic areas:
- Sustainability of processes, products and services for sport;
- Life Cycle Thinking and eco-design as part of business management;
- Integration of Life Cycle Thinking and innovation management;
- Sustainability in sporting events;
- Business cases and applications.
Prerequisites and basic notions
There are no specific prerequisites
Program
1) The concept of environmental sustainability and its relationship with the social and economic dimensions of sustainability.
2) How to identify the environmental and social impacts of sporting activities and sporting events.
3) The LCA methodology for assessing environmental impacts and the Life-Cycle Thinking approach for the design of sport facilities and events.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Frontal lessons in the classroom with the aid of slides. There will be the opportunity to carry out a project work.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is written and includes theoretical open questions and multiple choice questions on the topics of the course. Attending students will be offered the opportunity to carry out a project work in which the ability to work in a team and to present the results will be assessed. The project work will add a maximum of 3 points to the final grade.
Evaluation criteria
The evaluation parameters will be: competence in the use of specialist vocabulary, ability to identify the environmental and social impacts of sports activities and sporting events, ability to select the sustainability tools presented and to evaluate the ways of their application to sports organizations.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade is based on the sum of the final exam grade and the evaluation obtained in the project work (optional).
