Learning objectives
The training objectives of the lesson are: acquisition of knowledge of the fundamental biological mechanisms that regulate the functioning of the immune system and of the pathological mechanisms of the immune system in cancer. Knowledge of the general principles of vaccinia therapy and immunosuppression.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Preliminary knowledge of the immune system and oncological processes
Program
The lesson aims to provide students with basic knowledge on current immune therapies for solid and liquid tumors. In particular, the issues relating to the role of the immune system in promoting the recognition of tumor cells and limiting their progression, and the "immunoevasion" strategies activated by tumor cells to escape immune control will be discussed. Furthermore, new therapeutic approaches based on the strengthening of innate and adaptive anti-tumor immune responses will be illustrated in order to further promote the effectiveness of current therapies in use. The lesson will include an in-depth look at the use of recombinant DNA techniques to provide new skills to the cells of the immune system.
