Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the tools to understand the historical dynamics within geography. The spatial concepts at the basis of geographical knowledge will be analysed in their diachronic dimension, reconstructing the stratigraphy of geographical knowledge and their evolution over time, in their epistemological assumptions and teleological applications to social and environmental problems, also activating interdisciplinary links with the history of philosophy and historiography. Particular attention will be paid to the history of geographical thought in Trentino between the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. The educational objective of the course is to develop an in-depth knowledge of the relations between society and space, approaching the development of epistemology, thought and geographical knowledge diachronically.
