Program

The seminar will present the Empirical phenomenological Method elaborated by Luigina Mortari as an innovative approach for qualitative research. After presenting its theoretical foundation, starting from Husserlian concepts, the seminar will propose three applications of the method in educational and in healthcare fields.
The seminar will be structured in 4 modules:
• Empirical Phenomenological Method (EPM): theoretical foundation (2 hours): Luigina Mortari
• EPM and eidetic research questions: examples of application in the educational field (2 hours): Marco Ubbiali
• EPM and narrative research questions: examples of application in the educational field (2 hours): Federica Valbusa
• EPM and narrative research questions: examples of application in the healthcare field (2 hours): Rosi Bombieri
At the end of the seminar the PhD students will be able to understand the theoretical underpinnings of the choice of a research method, will know the foundation of a method able to investigate the lived experience of people and, after the discussion of three implemented inquiries, will have the possibility to reflect on the concrete instruments and steps for carrying out qualitative research. The faculties will dedicate time for the class debate and will be glad to discuss with the PhD students about their research projects.
