Learning objectives

The course aims to provide basic theoretical knowledge on the archives during their making and on the management of current archives. The course provides an opportunity to get in contact with the documentation, as a first practical experience of using historical archives and as an approach to matters of research within archives as well. The course will also deal with concepts and practices related to computer archivistic, PEC, digital signature, graphometric and digital document preservation. At the end of the course the student will have to know the concepts exposed in the class, to know the basic archival tools, to know archive types used and illustrated in class.

Prerequisites and basic notions

No prerequisites are required

Program

After defining what an archive is and what are the functions of archivistic sciences, attention will be focused on the analysis of the features that characterize the archive in its different phases: current, storage and historical. For each of these steps will be illustrated the tools for proper archival management. During the course, reference will be made to the Italian law concerning archival matters focusing on the digital administration Code. Digital documents will be studied to understand how in a non-analogue environment the legal probative value must always be maintained. In this context, the various types of signature will be analyzed: electronic and digital, focusing on their value and role. Finally, particular attention will be paid to the preservation of digital documents.
