Learning objectives

Teaching comparative literature aims at transmitting to the students crucial conceptual intruments and modes of thoughts concerning some important literary themes current in the Western World. By the end of the course the student will master notions and critical methodologies used by the professor in class.

Program

Imaginary conversations, dialogues of the dead and impossible interviews published in prose and in an autonomous or distinct form, where famous historical figures who are no longer alive intervene, can be included in a small literary genre: the posthumous fantastic conversation. The course outlines the identifying characteristics of the genre. Recurring themes, motifs and purposes can be recognised. Developments and hybridizations of the posthumous fantastic conversation are explored from the archetypes of Plato and Lucian of Samosata up to postmodernism and the most recent developments of online writing. In conclusion, an in-depth study on Italo Calvino's "Historical Dialogues" is planned.

- Face-to-face and/or remote lessons (in the foreseen situations)
- Resources and activities on the University's Moodle platform (ATTENTION: consulting the Moodle space of the course is essential)
- Use of innovative technologies for teaching (Wooclap for surveys and tests, activities interactive in Moodle)
- Reading in advance by students of some texts in the bibliography and materials shared on the platform (based on the teacher's indications to encourage discussion in the classroom)
- Individual or group written reworking (composition of a short dialogue ).
- Self-evaluation exercises (multiple choice tests anonymously and without evaluation) at the middle and end of the course.

Evaluation criteria

For those attending classes, the following will be considered: active participation in the classroom and assimilation of the contents of the lessons, reading and understanding of the study materials with application of the critical methodologies peculiar to the discipline, written work (optional: maximum 2 points), language skills. For non-attending students the criteria will be: proactivity in retrieving information relating to the course and study materials, reading and understanding the texts in the program with application of the critical methodologies peculiar to the discipline, viewing/listening to the multimedia materials projected in the classroom and shared in Moodle, language properties.
