Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide basic knowledge of general introduction to anthropology

Program

The course aims at examining the main topics and concepts of the discipline, with the purpose of debating and critically applying the main scholarly theories to social contexts characterized by cultural diversity. Topics: a. elements of history of anthropology and analysis of the main scholarly theories that have contributed to shape the discipline; b. critical assessment of the concept of culture, identity and alterity; c. field research in various social contexts of the contemporaneity.

Teaching methods: Different teaching methodologies will be used in order to cater for the range of learning needs and requirements that are present within class environment. The course will be organised as a seminar, including readings, active participation and debates on parts of the texts to be studied for the exam.
