Learning outcomes

The course aims to explore:
1. the correlation between society and knowledge
2. the relationship between subject and society, highlighting how the two parties co-participate in the construction of reality and thus overcoming the holistic approach (Emile Durkheim) and the individualist approach (Max Weber)
3. the close relationship between individuals, social structure and culture

The monographic part will deepen the concept of material culture, above all the symbolic and communicative function that today's objects take. This second part will study food, as a specific case of cultural object that mediates and realizes tastes, values, relationships and dynamics in society.

Program

The course will be developed through an in-depth study of four thematic nuclei.
1. the bond between the individual and society.
2. the correlation between culture and society.
3. the symbolic function of objects today.
4. food as an element of material culture.
