The course aims to explore: 1. the correlation between society and knowledge 2. the relationship between subject and society, highlighting how the two parties co-participate in the construction of reality and thus overcoming the holistic approach (Emile Durkheim) and the individualist approach (Max Weber) 3. the close relationship between individuals, social structure and culture The monographic part will deepen the concept of material culture, above all the symbolic and communicative function that today's objects take. Syllabus: The course will cover the notion of five keywords: 1) Society 2) Culture 3) Identity 4) Process 5) Communication In particular, the themes will be analyzed in the light of their relationship with traditional, modern and post-modern society. It is a great space for theoretical programming as a fundamental condition for understanding the empirical plan that the course will deal with by studying the problems connected to identity. The gaze with which the issues are addressed will be constantly turned towards communication that plays a decisive role in the processes of control and social change. During the course some seminars are planned with external guests. Bibliography: M. Castells, Comunicazione e Potere, Università Bocconi Press, Milano (I-II-III and conclusion) or W.
