L-FIL-LET/14 - CRITICAL COMPARATIVE LITERATURE
Period
Secondo semestre dal Feb 28, 2011 al Jun 4, 2011.
Learning outcomes
The course will highlight the comparative dimension of literary text through the autobiographical narration of the exile experience. On this basis, the course will provide the students with the capacity to define a literary topic ( in this case, the exile experience) and to analyse it in some of its most significant cotemporary expressions.
Program
This course examines literature of exile in comparative perspective, with special attention to some famous world’s exiles, like Vladimir Nabokov, Azar Nafisi and Dubravka Ugresic. The lectures will seek to analyse the kind of relation that these authors’ texts establish with their homeland on one side and with their newly acquired immigrant’s home on the other. Life in exile will be analysed from the perspective of main exiles’ paradigms such as elaborated by recent interdisciplinary analysis, as for example ‘reflective’ and ‘reflexive’ nostalgia, in order to investigate the literary use of concepts like “home”, “homeland” and immigrant’s land.
