Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to introduce the study of social work as a discipline and as a profession. The scientific and disciplinary foundations of social work, the object of study and of intervention in social work, the philosophical and ethical foundations of values in social work will be illustrated in detail.

Syllabus:
1. Social work in Italy: advent and phases of development.
2. Needs: definitions, features, theoretical approaches.
3. Values and principles in social work.
4. The object of study and intervention in social work.
5. The professional social work: definition, aims, functions, scope of activities.
6. The tri-dimensionality of the object of social work: aims and values of the profession and their relationships with the organizational context.
