Learning outcomes

General Objectives
Knowledge and understanding
- knowledge and understanding related to the contextualization of the need and the recognition of its biopsychosocial nature
- knowledge and understanding of the principal processes of social change

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
- ability to place the critical issues relate to users within the broader dynamics of social change
- ability to interpret the causes of the needs and to distinguish those that have social, family rather than personal origin, also paying attention to the relationships and to the reinforcement actions that are related to them

Specific Objectives
The course in Community Psychology will introduce the students to the specific analytical perspective of such a discipline, working within the general framework of Dynamic Psychology, but also employing the main concepts presented in the course of Social Psychology. Community Psychology looks at the sources of well-being, shifting the focus from an individualistic perspective and investigating instead its collective dimension. The focus will be on the relationships between people (especially between the social worker and the service user) and between people and the contexts they live in. Students will study the importance of a sense of community, the concept of participation and community empowerment for individual and social changes. It will be demonstrated how community work can deal with psycho-social problems and develop individual resources in relationship settings. Theoretical principles that guide social workers will be discussed during the lessons.
