Learning outcomes

The course will try to encourage the acquisition of sufficient basic knowledge to read and correctly interpret the phenomenon of emigration / immigration flows. In particular, the lessons will try to stimulate the emergence of a personal critical view on the social, historical, economic, demographic and political factors related to the emigration / immigration flows. To facilitate the pursuit of these objectives, the social consequences of current immigration regulation policies in Italy will also be critically analyzed.

The course program will analyze the following contents:

1. Migrations and migrants
2. The causes of migration
3. Migration and economic development in the target companies
4. The functions of migration networks
5. The actors of the inclusion of migrants
6. Migrant women and transnational families
7. The children of immigration
8. Immigration regulation policies
9. Immigration and deviance
10. Prejudice, discrimination, racism
11. Refugees, forced migrants, Roma and Sinti minorities

Examination Methods

Object of evaluation will be:

1. the level of knowledge of the contents indicated in the exam program, discussed in the classroom and contained in the exam text;

2. the scientific appropriateness of the language used to express the concepts;

3. the ability to elaborate, in the answers, a personal summary of the studied contents;

4. the grammatical and syntactic correctness with which the answers to the exam test will be written.
