Period

II semestre (Lingue e letterature straniere) dal Feb 15, 2021 al May 29, 2021.

Learning outcomes

The course will give a diachronic description of Russian language, focusing on some substantial moments in its historical evolution and paying specific attention to both the socio-cultural approach and the sectorial languages. The course provides those linguistic materials that give the students the necessary awareness concerning the historical and cultural aspects of the Russian language. This approach does not overlook how the language is put in practice in a working environment. At the end of the course, the student will be able to: 1) know the fundamental traits of the diachronic development of the Russian language; 2) use the specific historical-linguistic knowledge acquired during the course; 3) analyse and interpret literary and non-literary texts from different epochs. For students of LM19 – who have a C1 level in Russian – text analysis will deal specifically with the areas of journalism, politics, advertisement and popularisation.

Program

The basic topics are:
- The language diacronic concept. Sectorial languages in Russian.
- Journalism and the evolution of the Russian language.
- Role and prestige of the language in Russian perspective

Among the specialist topics we shall study:
- The réclame and trading language from the period of merchant mecenates up to Putin’s era.
- Russian business language and the cultural knowledge.

Learning/Educational Arrangements: maximum interplay between students and professor by a seminarial principle. The professor will give basic metholodical and cognitive ground and offer some topics for a collective socio-linguistic analysis. Students will interact in two manners: by collective discussion of topics and by individual presentation of a specific theme to be preventively choosen with the professor.

REFERENCE LITERATURE:
- An anthology of the texts will be provided during the course

Examination Methods

Aims: the aim of the exam is to verify:
- The acquisition by the students of the basic space-temporal and conceptual coordinates learned in the course
- The ability to value independently e with a full knowledge of the situation the peculiar linguistic and socio-linguistic phenomena of Russian language analysed in the course.

Contents:
The exam will be about the contents included in the programme and about the materials analysed during the course.

Methods for conducting:
The exam is oral and is an interview during which the student must present with precision and showing the ability to judge independently about what has been learned during the course and the individual preparation. The programme is the same for both the attending and non-attending students: the last ones can find the necessary materials to study in the programme, in the lecture notes and on the e-learning internet page; they could ask for additional material or explanations to the professor during the office hours if needed.

Arrangements for evaluating:
Single vote in thirties.
