Learning objectives
At the end of the General Medicine Area practical training the students should achieve the following objectives: • master and implement the best practices of the doctor-patient relationship; • be able to collect the medical history and perform an objective examination; • apply clinical reasoning, be able to identify priority or urgent and secondary problems, to generate diagnostic hypotheses and to identify diagnostic tests of greater sensitivity and specificity in order to confirm or refute such hypotheses; • be able to interpret laboratory results; • be able to interpret diagnostic imaging reports; • comprehend decision-making processes related to medical treatment; • be able to fill reports and prescriptions; • be able to assess the appropriateness of the indication for hospitalization, addressing patients to an Emergency Room, of consultants • be able to focus on the reason and adequateness of medical care notwithstanding complex medical conditions, which might include chronicity and other critical issues; • be able to indicate prevention and health education actions; • be aware of the importance of observing strict punctuality in working activities; • comply with hygiene behaviour and rules of medical clinics; • know how to positively interact with the medical, nursing and secretarial staff
Prerequisites and basic notions
Having achieved adequate theoretical preparation to be admitted to the qualifying degree
Program
ntegrate structural and functional symptoms, signs and alterations and aggregate them into a comprehensive assessment of the health status of the individual, adult and elderly, in terms of preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation,
• formulating differential diagnostic hypotheses after having elaborated the patient's signs and symptoms, taking into account their relevance, severity and urgency and after having critically acquired and analyzed all the instrumental and laboratory data necessary to confirm the correctness of the diagnostic procedure,
• set up a structured and reasoned therapeutic program on the acquired knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology and systematic therapy,
• analyze and resolve the clinical problems of the internist type, diagnostic and therapeutic, according to a methodology that allows to evaluate the relationships between benefits, risks and costs, also using the results of "evidence-based medicine",
• set up, in the overall management strategy of the patient, also possible aspects of prevention, intervention on the environment and rehabilitation,
• be able to communicate properly with the patient, with his relatives, and be able to correctly set up work relationships with colleagues and other professional health figures

Practical activity carried out in the clinics of general practitioners
Learning assessment procedures
There is no single formalized exam moment. The student will be evaluated throughout the entire internship, taking into account all the aspects present on the last page of the specific booklet that explore his medical skills, his professionalism and his ability to interact with the patient. The tutor will express his evaluation, for each of the training objectives, using the following letters: A corresponding to excellent; B excellent; C good; D satisfactory; E sufficient; F insufficient. The final evaluation will be expressed by the tutor in terms of: "suitable" or "unsuitable". Only the achievement of suitability allows access to the Degree exam which is qualifying for the profession of medical surgeon, in case of unsuitability the student will have to repeat the internship.

IMPORTANT NOTICES - According to the Legislative Decree. n.18 of 17 March 2020 "Cura Italia" converted into law n. 27/2020 of 24 April 2020.
Students enrolled in the LM/41 class (Class of master's degrees in medicine and surgery)
The MUR, with note protocol n. 8610 of 25/3/2020 with the object: "Abilitation to practice the profession of Doctor-Surgeon - art. 102 - Legislative Decree 17 March 2020, n. 18 (converted with amendments by Law 24 April 2020, n. 27), provides for adapting the LM/41 class system to the regulations above.
Those who have completed/will complete the pre-graduation practical-evaluative internship with a judgment of suitability (according to Ministerial Decree 58/2018), having obtained their degree, are authorized to practice the profession of doctor-surgeon and can proceed with registration at the Medical Association.
Issuance of the licensing certificate
The following fees are required to be paid for the purpose of issuing the professional license:
State fee in the amount of €49.90 to be paid before attendance of the practical evaluation internship begins;
regional habilitation fee to be paid upon delivery of the habilitation title.
Students enrolled in Class 46/S (Class of Master's Degrees in Medicine and Surgery) and predecessor orders (currently out of course) or students enrolled in Class LM/41 with cohorts prior to the 2014 cohort (currently out of course).
The MUR, in Memorandum Prot. No. 8610 of 3/25/2020 with the subject: “Habilitation to practice as a Doctor-Surgeon - Article 102 - Decree Law March 17, 2020 no. 18” provides that, those enrolled in the former systems, with practical traineeship provided post - graduation (pursuant to DM 445/2001), without prejudice to the rules on the forfeiture of studies, may conclude the course of study without necessarily having to acquire, for the purpose of admission to the final graduation examination, the judgment of suitability of the aforementioned evaluative practical traineeship. In this case, the degree to be issued by the University will have the value only of an academic title. It will remain without prejudice, in any case,in the possibility for such subjects to eventually obtain the license to practice as a medical-surgical doctor at a later date, according to the modalities set forth in paragraph 2 of Article 102, that is, by achieving the evaluation of the internship prescribed by Ministerial Decree No. 445/2001. The Athenaeum will continue to prepare a separate qualification diploma.
Please note that the aforementioned students are in any case allowed to opt for the new system in accordance with the terms and procedures.
