Program
1. Cellular pathology: basic mechanisms of cell damage; the biochemical lesion. Pathogenesis of hypoxic / ischemic damage. Pathogenesis of radical damage (oxidative stress). Oxygen free radical diseases. Pathogenesis of radiation damage.
Cell death: necrosis, apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, nectosis.
Serum markers of necrosis. Anatomo-pathological classification of necrosis.
2. The inflammatory response: causes; cardinal signs; angiophlogosis and histophlogosis. Vascular response. Exudate: characteristics and functions Cellular phase of angioflogosis: leukocyte migration, rolling, activation, firm adhesion, diapedesis. Adhesion molecules: selectins, integrins, immunoglobulins. Chemotaxis and chemotactic factors. Actions of leukocytes in the inflammatory site: phagocytosis, oxygen-dependent and independent bactericidal mechanisms. Immunodeficiencies from phagocytic cell defect: LAD, CGD. Inflammation mediators: general concepts, requirements, sources of mediators. Characteristics of plasma systems: the coagulation system; the complement system; the quinine system; the fibrinolytic system. Cellular mediators: (i) preforms; (ii) newly formed (rapid); (iii) newly formed (lenses). Cytokines: general concepts, cytokine families, physiological role, mode of action, identification criteria for a proinflammatory cytokine. Chemokines: C, CC, CXC, CX3C. Proinflammatory cytokines: cytokine cascade in inflammation. TNF-alpha, IL-1, IL-6: producing cells, stimuli, biological actions, local, systemic and pathological effects. TNFa in various pathologies. Autoinflammatory syndromes: definition, causes, therapeutic strategies. Mechanisms of inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines. Anti-cytokine therapies in autoimmune diseases. Negative regulation of primary inflammation cytokines: Interleukin 10, interleukin 1ra. The cytokine response in sepsis and exercise. Interferons: classes, producing cells, stimuli, biological actions, role in pathologies. Systemic effects of inflammation. Pathogenesis of septic shock.
3. Consequences of angiophlogosis.
Histophlogosis: diffuse interstitial inflammation, granulomatous inflammation - characteristics and differences.
The granuloma: composition, histogenesis, types of granuloma.
Foreign body granuloma; immune granuloma.
Tissue repair: cell types involved in reparative processes. Wound healing: by first intention and by second intention: the granulation tissue.
Fibroplasia and tissue remodeling.
4. Genome and epigenome. "Histone code";. RNA not coding. Apoptosis: extrinsic and intrinsic pathways.
5. Mechanisms of regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation.
Metaplasia, dysplasia and neoplasia.
Characteristics of neoplastic proliferation. Phenotypic, behavioral, metabolic and genetic characteristics of malignant neoplastic cells.
Etiopathogenesis of tumors. Evidence/observations of the genetic pathogenesis of tumors.
Natural history of the tumor: evolutionary stages of the carcinogenesis process, neoplastic progression and genetic heterogeneity.
Molecular basis of neoplastic transformation: families of genes that regulate important cellular functions: proto-oncogenes, oncogenes, tumor suppressors.
Mechanisms that transform proto-oncogenes into oncogenes: quantitative and qualitative modifications. Classes of oncogenes: (I) growth factors (EGF); (II) growth factor receptors (EGFR / ErbB, Her2 receptor / Neu); (III) proteins involved in signal transduction (ras); (IV) nuclear transcription factors (myc); (V) chromatin proteins; (VI) proteins that control the cell cycle; (VII) microRNA; (VIII) proteins that control apoptosis (Bcl2 family). Oncosuppressors. Cicline, retinoblastoma, p53: physiological and pathological role.

Classification, grade and stage of tumors. The TNM system. Haematological benign and malignant neoplasms.
Benign and malignant neoplasms of the oral cavity. Metastases: ways and stages of metastatic spread.
