Learning objectives
Students will acquire/improve their ability to understand and produce ¬both written and oral texts about nursing practice. Particular attention will be given to the lexical, syntactic, phonological and pragmatic aspects of medical English.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Basic knowledge of the English language and specialised lexis for Nursing

Analysis of international scientific texts including research papers and abstracts with a focus on Nursing
Description of trends, numbers, tables, and graphs
Study of academic language, syntax, lexis, and morphology

Didactic methods
The course consists of lessons supported by audio-video materials. Students are asked to actively participate in the lessons and will be involved in reading scientific texts, discussions, and exercises with guided correction.
Learning assessment procedures
Course grade determination is test-based. The written test (2 hours) consists of 4 parts:
-Exercises on English linguistics
-Description of a graph or a table
-Identification of a title for an abstract
-Exercise in academic writing
The written test allows students to obtain up to 30 points. Students will pass the exam with a minimum grade of 18/30.
