Learning outcomes

The main aim of the course is to present the health risks for health care workers in their occupational duties in order to promote the different shapes of prevention of possible diseases associated with these jobs.
The course introduces the student to the understanding of determinants of health, risk factors, prevention strategies both individual and collective, and of interventions to promote the health and safety. It also aims to understand the causes, the pathogenic mechanisms, and methods of prevention and control of infectious diseases.

Program

- Definition of Risk and Hazard
- General aspects of industrial toxicology related to the use of disinfectants in hospital.
- The biological risk (virus hepatitis B and C, HIV, TB) and possible prevention.
- How work shifts interfere on biological rhythms and pathological conditions related to work-shifts.
- The risk prevention system in the "Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Integrata di Verona".
- The risks for the manual handling of patients or loads
- Occupational allergies.

Examination Methods

Written tests in the form of questions with multiple answers and possible oral integration. All questions are related to the topics discussed during the lectures in order to understand if the students have read the provided noted and learn the main aspects of job security.
