Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide tools for understanding the plurality of configurations of contemporary families.
Thanks to the training activities proposed in class and online, the participants:
- will acquire some basic notions relating to the main systems of kinship in a cross-cultural perspective, to the concept of gender and sexual identity
- will know the main current demographic trends and the transformations of the family idea in the last decades
- they will talk about family models implicit in nursing institutions, about their professional gaze in meeting with families

In particular, through the shared analysis of some cases, the participants will be stimulated to
-develop sensitivity and skills in a cross-cultural perspective
- understand the different care practices and cultures that each family configuration carries

Program

The course aims to provide tools for a better understanding the plurality of configurations of contemporary families.
In particular, it focuses on:
- family models implicit in care institutions
-the relationship between family care and professional care: the professional's gaze on families
- family practices and cultures of care, with particular attention to kinship systems, gender roles and cross-cultural aspects
-the cultural competences of nurses (Models of Leininger, Purnell, Campinha Bacote)

Examination Methods

The exam will be an online multiple choice questionnaire.
