Learning outcomes
Develop the fundamental nursing skills for the assessment, monitoring and clinical surveillance of
signs and symptoms in geriatric patients. Different operational settings will be considered (hospital, residential structures for the elderly and the territory) to provide validated tools for a correct clinical evaluation and a subsequent adequate planning of the care of the elderly patient.
Given the high prevalence of malnutrition and physical disability in the elderly patient, as well as of cognitive problems, the course will explore their principal diagnostic aspects, the use of appropriate detection tools, in order to offer more appropriate care for the individual patient.

Autonomy and physical performance assessment:
· Assessment of the degree of autonomy
· Assessment of physical performance
· Screening for Sarcopenia diagnosis
Nutritional assessment
· Nutritional screening
· The evaluation of the nutritional status
Assessment of cognitive decline:
· Cognitive impairment, memory loss: screening and diagnostics
· Delirium and dementia
Hydration status of the elderly patient.
