Learning outcomes

The teaching module of Chronicity Nursing aims to provide the student the knowledge to assist the person with chronic-degenerative problems. in particular it aims to provide knowledge to understand and evaluate the problems of care and the areas of supervision relating to the main chronic degenerative, neurological-rehabilitativeand internist-geriatric diseases, considering the evolution during the different phases of the disease. Furthermore, it is proposed to bring the student to define valid and relevant prevention, solution and monitoring assistance interventions in the phases of stability and instability and to motivate the scientific rationale regarding the problems faced considering the development of self-care skills and with a view to continuity in different care settings.

Program

Chronicity concept and taking care principles of person with chronic degenerative disease considering the trajectories of illness, developing and sustaining skills of self-care, preventing disability. Approach to chronicity by analyzing the management WHO chronic model of care.

The management of falls: the assessment of the risk of falling in the elderly person and the preventive interventions of the fall and those short term in the event of a fall.

Evaluation and management of the person with dysphagia: screening of dysphagia and operative strategies to ensure functional swallowing, in particular the meal approach, the modified diet and the swallowing facilitating postures . Prevention of complications such as ab-ingestis, malnutrition and dehydration

Approach to the person with cognitive deficits, with preventive and rehabilitative perspective, in particular: the evaluation and management of memory deficit, language deficit (classification of aphasias and alternative communication modes), of neglet and of the person with confused state and delirium.
Specifically, considering the person with delirium there will be some specific assistance features to be implemented to prevent restraints.

Assistance and educational path to a person affected by stroke from the first twenty-four hours to the post-acute period: asssessing the socio-psycho-social care problems of the patient with stroke and designing a care plan both in the acute and rehabilitative phase with multiprofessional assistance approach based on scientific evidence .

Assistance and educational path for a person suffering from diabetes mellitus. In particular, assistential peculiarities in the management of diet, activity and physical exercise and glycemic self-monitoring and insulin therapy. Preventive aspects of the diabetic foot.

We also discuss some of the caring characteristics of the person affected by Parkinson's disease, such as the management of diet and therapy and physical exercise and Alzheimer's disease, such as strategies for the containment of behavioral disorders through a prothesic approach.

Examination Methods

The exam is written with multiple-choice or open-ended questions.
The written test consists of 25 questions related to all the contents of the program.
The content of the questions will be pure knowledge but applicative through description of care situations in order to evaluate the theoretical contents learned and the ability of the student to apply the contents.
The LAP required for passing the test is 65% of the total score.
If the student does not pass the written test twice, there will be the opportunity to take the exam through oral interview.
