Learning outcomes

Provide knowledge concerning the rehabilitation of the upper and lower limb amputee patient in a multidisciplinary team setting. Provide basic information on the different types of lower and upper limb prostheses.
Provide tools and skills necessary for the development of clinical reasoning skills, formulation of treatment proposals based on anamnestic collection and clinical evaluation of the patient with limb amputation.
Provide notions concerning the Orthoses and their use within a rehabilitation program: to know the different types of orthoses and to provide the tools and skills necessary for the development of clinical reasoning skills (from anmensical collection to clinical evaluation) that allow to recognize which type prosthesis is more recommended in order to achieve an adequate therapeutic objective and how to introduce the orthosis in a specific therapeutic proposal.

Program

The amputee patient: basics about amputation, epidemiology, etiology and surgery
The rehabilitation of the amputated patient: definition of the rehabilitation project within the multidisciplinary team; formulation of the therapeutic program on the basis of a clinical reasoning starting from the anamnestic data to the clinical evaluation. Principles of treatment of the amputee patient in the post-surgical phase, pre- and post-prosthetic
Reasoning on a clinical case.
Upper limb prosthesis: basic technical notions
Lower limb prosthesis: basic technical notions
Orthoses: notions about different types of orthoses according to conventional classification. Choice and use of the inside of a therapeutic program according to specific objectives formulated on the basis of a functional clinical reasoning.
