Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student:
•will understand the path of the patient suffering from oncological disease and the importance of physiotherapy and rehabilitation intervention;
• will be able to identify the professional figures involved in the field of oncology and understand the importance of multidisciplinarity for effective teamwork;
• will know the different aspects of functional evaluation and planning of rehabilitation intervention in the planning of the physiotherapy process in the oncological and lymphological field;
• will know definitions, dimensions, possible determinants, possible consequences and main cause-specific treatments of the main functional impairments and limitations of common activities in cancer patients and specific to some organs ;
• will know the basic rehabilitation techniques (physical treatment of lymphatic edema, physical exercise, physical activity for fatigue ..) and the essential principles of their practical application.

Program

Rehabilitation in oncology:
• Definition;
• The importance of rehabilitation intervention;
• The complexity of the treatment of oncological pathology and consequent sequelae of physio therapeutic interest for the restoration of integrity or the improvement of all the functions that the diagnosis of cancer and the different types of treatments may have altered;
• Multi-professional and multidisciplinary management;
• The diagnostic therapeutic path and related complications of physio therapeutic interest;
• Functional evaluation, clinical reasoning, objectives and physiotherapy program with the appropriate physiotherapy strategies for the sequelae of some types of cancer and chemotherapy, radiotherapy intervention... of physiotherapy interest in phases:
• breast cancers,
• thoracic-pulmonary cancers,
• female and male uro-gynecological cancers.
Focus on lymphedema:
• Treatment of lymphedema in oncology
• The pathophysiology of the lymphatic system
• Lymphedema treatment guidelines
• functional evaluation, clinical reasoning and physiotherapy strategies of rehabilitation treatment of lymphedema
Focus on fatigue:
• Fatigue treatment guidelines
• Evaluation, clinical reasoning, physiotherapy strategies of fatigue treatment
