Learning outcomes
The module aims to give the students the necessary knowledge to evaluate the functional impairments and limitations that follow the main respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and to plan specific physical therapy interventions.
Program
The specific contents of the program are:
• respiratory rehabilitation: definition and indications
• bronchial deobstruction techniques
• respiratory rehabilitation before and after high abdominal or thoracic surgery
• respiratory rehabilitation for children
• specific respiratory techniques
• basic concepts of cardiovascular rehabilitation
• physical exercise: typology, intensity, modality, duration, frequency; indications and contraindications
• ischemic heart disease: rehabilitation project, patient’s evaluation and physical therapy treatment in the acute and subacute phases
• heart surgery: patient’s evaluation and physical therapy treatment before and after the surgery
• lower limb peripheral obstructive arterial disease: classification and evaluation of symptoms; controlled physical activity programs
• chronic lower limb venous insufficiency: conservative-rehabilitation treatment, physical activity program
• heart failure: rehabilitation project, functional evaluation scales, physical therapy treatment in the acute and stabilization phases
• specific features of cardiovascular rehabilitation in the elderly
• physical therapist’s role in the healthcare education of the patient affected by specific respiratory and cardiovascular diseases
