Learning outcomes
Examine the neurophysiopathological aspects that underlie the various morbid processes that affect the nervous system. Identify, through the use of clinical neurophysiology, the pathological mechanisms responsible for the most important syndromes and explain their symptomatology through the analysis of signs according to an approach aimed at rehabilitation.
Program
The anatomical and functional aspects of the nervous system as a basis for understanding neurological signs and symptoms. The mechanisms of plasticity of the central nervous system and their role in the pathophysiology of neurological damage and recovery. The physiology of the peripheral nervous system. Pathophysiology of the peripheral nervous system and motor unit. Pain physiology and pathophysiology, with particular reference to neuropathic pain. The clinics of pain.
Clinical neurophysiology of the peripheral nervous system: diagnostic tools (electroneurography, electromyography). Clinical neurophysiology of the peripheral nervous system: clinical applications with illustrative cases.
Clinical neurophysiology of the nociceptive system: diagnostic tools (laser-evoked potentials, quantitative sensory testing). Methods for imaging the peripheral nervous system: ultrasound and nerve MRI and clinical applications with examples.
Physiology and pathophysiology of cerebral circulation. Tools for the study of the pathophysiology of cerebral circulation.
Basics on the physiology and pathophysiology of the motor system. Pathophysiology of spasticity and upper motor neuron syndrome. Clinics of spasticity and upper motor neuron syndrome. Basics on neurophysiological methods for the study of spasticity and upper motor neuron syndrome.
