Prerequisites and basic notions

This module has the objective to expose students to the principles of investment analysis and of theory of real estate valuation, with specific reference to the wine industry. Starting from the theory of value e from the foundation of financial mathematics, the student is gradually progressed towards learning and professional case studies which are typical of the wine sector, with special reference to investments in land, in vineyard, in machinery, integrated (vertical and horizontal) businesses through the analysis of the economies of scale in a winery, and human capital, inclusive of multiplier and other spillover effects at the regional level. Furthermore, we will present several case studies of investment in vineyard in various geographical contexts, even under uncertainty and with the numerical simulation methods implemented with R, and inclusive of the problem of the threshold price for entry and exit decisions in the wine grape production industry with the method of the reali option analysis.
