Learning objectives

The goal of this course is to provide the main knowledge about logistics and supply chain manage-ment in emergency and humanitarian situations. The course will describe the processes, activities, actions and challenges that should be coordinated in order to manage effectively and efficiently an emergency supply chain. In doing this, he types and sources of emergencies will be analyzed, and the kind of public and private organizations involved will be defined. The couse will also provide students with practical methodologies and techniques that can be adopted in order to assess and mitigate risks and vulnerabilities related to emergency supply chain, from both a risk management and a business continuity perspective.

- Introduction to logistics and supply chain management: activities, processes and management models - 'Lean' and 'agile' logistics and hybrid forms of 'leagility': application in the humanitarian and emergency management fields - Collaboration with logistics operators and the methods for selecting the forms of outsourcing for humanitarian contexts - Security and risk management: international reference standards, best practices, specific applications in emergency management - The management of operational and strategic risks in the emergency supply chain and decision-making models - Crisis management, disaster recovery and business continuity management: models and techniques for preventing critical events, managing the event and restoring business continuity - Analysis models of the trade-off between cost and logistic service in the management of emergencies - Performance measurement and goal prioritization: measurement models b based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - National, international and global logistics: how vulnerabilities, risks and emergencies change in a global supply chain. Learning assessment procedures

The exam is a written exam composed by 4 open questions. A project work, developed in the form of a team work, will complete the evaluation.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The theoretical and precise knowledge of the topics of the course is assessed, ascertained through the written exam, and the ability to critically analyze and apply theoretical concepts to real cases, while the project work

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

a bonus (maximum 3 points) is awarded to the project work, which is added to the mark in 30/30 to the mark of the written exam.
